Back in December, I had been thinking of using some Christmas cash and taking a trip with Matty to the happiest place on earth, yes Disney World!! But it quickly became apparent that while the rents are most generous, the trip would set us both back quite a bit as well as require the both of us to take off of work for a week, so scratch that. I wracked my brain trying to plan a fun mini-vacation somewhere in Texas, but we've done San Antonio a few times now, and both of us have been to Austin a couple of times, and well, I lived in Dallas so I looked westward and ho, there was Fredericksburg! Founded by some of my favorite people, the Germans! Fantastic food, check! Barrels of beer, check! Vineyards full of wine, sold! This trip was different than most we take. Normally I plot and scheme and jam pack our vacations so full of seeing and doing everything that we don't really "relax". In Fredericksburg, there isn't a whole lot to see and do. Just a lot of antique shops, galleries, a few museums and vineyards all along Highway 290. I found our cute little cabin online, it's one part of a B&B and I like the history of it and that we got a full breakfast :) We spent our afternoons strolling along Main Street, ate some fantastic food, and just relaxed. We sat on our front porch swing and drank wine and cozied up in front of the fire and watched movies and I loved it! I really need to start planning more of these relaxation vacations and not plan the darn things to death. If you're looking for an action-packed weekend look elsewhere, but for a low-key get away from it all time, Fredericksburg is awesome!
My favorite meal, Jaegerschnitzel at Der Lindenbaum.
