Never Enough Hours in a Day

Sunday, December 12, 2010
Greetings friends and family! Good things have been happening so let me fill you in. I have officially concluded my student teaching! Kindergarten did grow on me, just as I knew it would and it will feel so weird not to head to school tomorrow morning. I have some final meetings tomorrow and Thursday with my college including a portfolio presentation which I should probably get started on, hmm. I also have an interview Tuesday for a first grade position at a school that I have only heard really bad things about, but I'm looking at it as a good interview opportunity and I'll at least give them that much of my time. I also have an opportunity for subbing at my school as a k-2 science and math interventionist for the next few months and then long term subbing in March with my partner teacher's kindergarten class. So at least I have a back-up plan in case this interview goes as well as I think it will. On the home front, Matt and Mollie and I have been busy getting ready for the holidays. Our new tree is up and decorated and we're almost done with our decorations outside. I'm looking forward to this week off of school to get this apartment back together, honestly right now it looks pretty awful, but that's what happens in the real world right? I'm also almost done with all of my Christmas shopping so that's one more item to cross of my to-do list. Well, for now it's time to get some shut-eye, but here's wishing your and yours a happy holiday season :)

It's been awhile...

Wow, so apparently I haven't blogged since August! Quick catch up. My brother got married, I started student teaching, my best friend got married, had a fun girls weekend up in Dallas and now I'm less than a month away from being certified to teach! I got a small taste of how much work goes into wedding planning for my brother's rehearsal dinner. I was basically in charge of decorating and I made the nametags, drink tokens, menus and favor tags and I think everything turned out really nice. Student teaching has been going really well. I was in a second grade English class for a month and loved the kids and my mentor teacher was so sweet. Now for November and December I have moved down to a kindergarten math and science class. I have to say so far I prefer second grade, but I still have a month to go so maybe these little ones will grown on me some more. I really miss the second grade kiddos and the work was just more creative and interesting and obviously the pace was faster. Kindergartners are so cute and we have some really sweet kids, but I don't know how much of the crying and whining and tattling I would be able to take and when you have to work so hard just to get them to sit down and pay attention for five mintues, whew. Also we've been working on the same math concept for the past two weeks, so I'm kind of bored. But on the bright side, my principal has already mentioned my coming in as a long term substitute for one of the teachers who is due in March. I'm definitely going to keep my options open, but at least my name popped in her head! Other job has been the same old same old drama and I am looking forward to not working retail anymore. I miss my weekends and holidays was too much. I also miss spending time with Matt and Mollie. Last weekend we went for our annual Renaissance Festival visit. We always end up going on the lamest theme weekends though, this year was Roman Bacchanal, so I think next year I want to either go for Oktoberfest, Halloween, or the Christmas themed weekend. We had gorgeous weather and had a really nice time though. We've also been trying to resume our geocaching and have gone twice in the last few weeks so that's fun. In October, Matt and I were up in Tyler for Chelsea and Thiago's wedding and it was so much fun and so beautiful and boy did they go all out! There were fireworks and a camera crew and we all had a great time. And now I'll conclude with some random photos because I have some new favorites!

Looking back, this song is ridiculous.

My Misery of the past month!

Tuesday, July 13, 2010
So you may have noticed me complaining (via the internets) about poison ivy and doctor's appointments and such so I thought that I would share a visual interpretation of my misery. I will warn you though that it's pretty gross and I have been covering myself from head to toe in shame for the past few weeks because of it. I won't be mad if you don't wanna look.
Here it goes:

The first picture was a few days after my geocaching in Waco. All I knew was that my legs and arms were covered in these little bites. After investigating on the world wide web, I think mom and I were bit by chiggers. Not an uncommon occurrence in Texas, but my first run in with them. Itchy, itchy, scratchy, scratchy and a few days later my leg looks like this. Hmmm, not so hot, but for some reason I thought I was getting better. Matt finally convinced me I was not and so I headed to the doctor, see picture number 3. One week had gone by. The doctor took a look at my leg and pronounced that I had poison ivy and needed to stop scratching. A steroid shot in the bum and a Garfield band-aid did little to ease my pain. A couple days later, the hives appeared on my stomach and thighs and arms. I quickly made another doctor's appointment and upon seeing me in my little hospital gown the doctor declared "ALLERGIC REACTION!! to something..." Still not sure whether it was the steroid shot, the poison ivy itself or just stress causing my first ever allergic reaction, but I'm happy to say that I am finally healing, almost three weeks after the fact. Adding to my irritation with my body flipping out right now, this weekend I am partying it up for my lovely bestie's bridal shower and bachelorette. So not exactly the best timing body. Anywho, learn from my mistake. NEVER GEOCACHE in WACO!!

Things are happening!

Tuesday, May 11, 2010
So lately I've been juggling: classwork, observations, sub jobs, work, relationship, puppy care and basic home upkeep. Did I mention that I forgot to take my final exam for my General Education class? Yep. Since I also had to present a quick and easy science experiment for our last day of class I totally blanked when it came to taking the online final the night before. Luckily I wasn't the only one (four other people also forgot) so the instructor let me take it late. Anyways, so now my coursework is officially complete! In other news, the promotion I was up for at work fell through due to circumstances not entirely of my own making. I sat through THE WORST INTERVIEW EVER, but every interview is a learning experience, right? right?? But my friend that I was supposed to be filling in for finally had her baby, Jackson on the fourth. Still trying to think up a little something to take over to her. Maybe a comfy robe or cupcakes...

On a happier note, I passed my PPR exam! So now I have taken and passed both of my required teaching exams. I know that I also should look into taking the ESL certification, but for now it's apply apply apply to every job opening in the district and if nothing comes of that I'll be student teaching in the fall. I know that going out and getting a job fresh off the boat will be difficult if not near impossible, but I think getting paid for a year's internship still outweighs not getting paid for a semester's worth of teaching.

And finally, one of my best friend's weddings is in SIX months (I wonder if she realizes this, maybe I should call her and tell her) so I've decided once again it's time to get in shape. I have heard good things about this program called Couch Potato to 5K and have signed up to get my run on. I like the program because it's designed to help you build up to running a 5K. Day one was tougher than I expected, but I am determined to be a happier healthier me! Other than that I have some fun times to look forward to; I'm heading to Waco next weekend for an eye doctor appointment and a MASSAGE with mom and auntie :) Then the next weekend Matty and I are celebrating our 24th birthdays with a little staycation downtown Houston style and then the next weekend my lovely ladies are coming down to visit and we are hitting the beach! Can't wait!

When's my Spring Break?

Monday, March 22, 2010
Not gonna lie, I'm super jealous that everyone I know is off having super fun Spring Break adventures. Anywhere but here right? I mean you girls were all over the place, London, D.C., Seattle, New Orleans. I guess I need to get with the program and plan our trip for this summer, that should cheer me up! In other news, I have my first substitute job this week in an Intermediate English class so we'll see how that goes. I still have about six hours of observations to finish up and then take my PPR exam on the 17th so I should probably start studying for that :) I also have an informational meeting at the end of next month to sign up for student teaching next semester, so all of my teaching stuff is going well. I have a baby shower cake to make for my co-worker at Pier 1 for this weekend. She's having a little boy and his nursery stuff is kind of vintage sports-themed so I'll be making her some artwork to match and the cake will also be sporty. You've all probably noticed my statuses about geocaching of late and for those of you who don't know anything about it (like me) it's a kind of scavenger hunt for caches people have hidden all over. You just create an account at geocaching.com and look up coordinates for the cache, then plug them into your handy dandy GPS and go hunting. Some caches are little, like film canisters and others are larger and filled with swag! It's Matt and I's new hobby cause it's super fun and hey it's free! I highly recommend it because it gets you out and about, walking, and the hunt is a lot of fun. We've been at it just over a week now and have found 24 caches. We are already thinking of driving to a State or National park or even just up to Lake Conroe, where we could really do some hiking in nature and find lots of fun stuff. Here's a pic of Matt finding a larger cache. So fun! We're kind of addicted. Guess that's all for now. Laters!

New Things

Thursday, February 4, 2010
In case you missed it, my little nephew Tyler Brett Cleverley (Brett after my dad, aw) made his arrival Tuesday, January 26. He's a whopping 8lbs and 20 3/4" and cute as can be! One of the latest pics from my brother

And in other news, I've started an Etsy shop to see if I can make some extra cash and put my craftiness to work. For the most part I'm thinking custom paintings for nurseries, kids' rooms, some pet portraits and the like. I made Tyler a little something for his jungle-themed nursery and I think it turned out cute:So we'll see how that goes, I have so many ideas, but with my class starting and work and studying for my big certification exams there is zero time. Hopefully things will settle down a little more and I can get to work on making more fun stuff!

Starting 2010 off with a Beer and a Schnitzel

Friday, January 15, 2010
Back in December, I had been thinking of using some Christmas cash and taking a trip with Matty to the happiest place on earth, yes Disney World!! But it quickly became apparent that while the rents are most generous, the trip would set us both back quite a bit as well as require the both of us to take off of work for a week, so scratch that. I wracked my brain trying to plan a fun mini-vacation somewhere in Texas, but we've done San Antonio a few times now, and both of us have been to Austin a couple of times, and well, I lived in Dallas so I looked westward and ho, there was Fredericksburg! Founded by some of my favorite people, the Germans! Fantastic food, check! Barrels of beer, check! Vineyards full of wine, sold! This trip was different than most we take. Normally I plot and scheme and jam pack our vacations so full of seeing and doing everything that we don't really "relax". In Fredericksburg, there isn't a whole lot to see and do. Just a lot of antique shops, galleries, a few museums and vineyards all along Highway 290. I found our cute little cabin online, it's one part of a B&B and I like the history of it and that we got a full breakfast :) We spent our afternoons strolling along Main Street, ate some fantastic food, and just relaxed. We sat on our front porch swing and drank wine and cozied up in front of the fire and watched movies and I loved it! I really need to start planning more of these relaxation vacations and not plan the darn things to death. If you're looking for an action-packed weekend look elsewhere, but for a low-key get away from it all time, Fredericksburg is awesome!
My favorite meal, Jaegerschnitzel at Der Lindenbaum.
